I have never heard od (8D) batteries before. But I sure would like to learn a bit about them if they are that cheap. I agree if they will handle a man lift they should work fine.

I just found our 6 6V T-105s will run the fridge through an inverter for 3 days and still have 12.20 volts.

The batteries are hooked up both in series and paralell. Thats not bad if you ask me. Of course it is just a dorm fridge. Draws 1.25 amps at 120V. These batteries are over 5 years old. They were in my golf cart until recently.

And going back I guess. Not sure may try to sell the cart with no batteries. That way I can keep them. To use with my smaller inverter. Thats the one in the above pic. I just hooked up a 5000 watt and 16 ups 12V batteries that a good friend found for me.

Automotive type batteries are designed to provide large amounts of power for a very short time, but are not very good at providing constant power for any length of time. looking at the specs I my guess is they would not be very good for alternative power because they just list a cranking amps (CA) rating that is a short term rating. You would want a battery that has an amp/hr rating and if you read the fine print it will say something like rated with a 20A current or something smaller like that.
