I was talking to the local corn stove dealer today and she told me that the stove must be plugged into a 110 outlet to operate. I asked her what happens if the power goes out and she said you need to have a generator for backup.

I don't know why I didn't ask her at the time but, what is powered by the electricity other than the fan? Is it the corn feeder?

Anybody with a corn stove or knowledge about them?

I'm not looking to get one but am interested in how they work.

Okay, just did a search on the website and BHM did an in depth story about corn stoves in issue #42 and it says that the auger and fan run on electric. It also said that emergency batteries can be bought to last 24 hours in the event of power outage.

Me being off grid, I considered on of these (http://www.americanenergysystems.com/babycountryside.cfm) and operating it on 12 volt D.C. full time..

That would certainly heat our place better than the open fireplace and space heaters we are using now *:-/
