I'm not sure what you mean by "ventured into".
I live in an area where Ethanol is available as 10 percent of the gasoline, 85 percent (E-85) of gasoline and also pure gasoline without any ethanol added.
I also noted that ADM, (Archer-Daniels-Midland) just last week anounced that some of it's Ethanol plants that had been planed for constuction have been cancelled do to the weakening of the Ethanol demand.
If I may use anticdotal examples, here is what I know;
All of my trucks and all but one tractor use Diesel. However, my 2 year old Lincoln Town Car burns gasoline. This is my third Town Car and all have shown the same results. When I fill the fuel tank with pure Gasoline I get between 8 and 11 percent better miles per gallon than I do filling with gas containing 10 percent Ethanol.
I have never used E-85 fuel but I have visited with a number of employees of the City of Greeely, Colorado. Some time ago Greeely government decided to be "Green Friendly" and mandated that city owned vehicles burn E-85 fuel. The Drivers of those vehicles that I have visited tell me that E-85 has cut the fuel mileage by nearly 50 percent compared to previous gasoline usage in the same vehicles (it takes twice as much fuel per mile). There was a recent news item in the Greeley Tribune indicating that the City management is reconsidering the fuel situation based on the greatly increased cost of using E-85 fuel compared to former cost of using 10 percent Ethanol in Gas for city vehicles.

Ok maybe i worded it wrong what i am actually looking at is generators, tractors, or vehicles running on just alcohol made by distillation or hydrogen fuel cells
I found this http://journeytoforever.org/biofuel_library/ethanol_drane.html

Back in 1999, I bought my Ford ranger with the engine specifically designed to run on E85 ethanol as an alternative fuel. In all that time, I never once ever had the chance to actually buy E85 here in California. I looked the JTF website and noted that the conversion was carburater based. The carburater has mostly disappeared from the modern automotive arena, so the instructions are out of date. I think it's a much better option to buy a new vehicle that can run on either gasoline or E85. Do a conversion, and you're stuck using ethanol whether its available or not. The next generator I buy will also have dual fuel capability. I don't want to screw around with conversions that I might be stuck with later.
