I've been wondering if using waste vegie oil is just another scam. I mean, it only seems practical if you are a food processor with a constant supply of fats.
I live in a village of 4000. We have approx. 12 restaurants (they come, they go). I have visited most of them-asking to see their waste oil tank, and asking how often the soap producers pickup the oil.
My conclusion is that if all the WVO was converted to bio-diesel we would have one hundred gallons a week (that's five cars with twenty gallon tanks). Many owners said that if several people wanted the waste oil it would become another profit-center for them (hence no longer free).
The advertisers claim of 40 cents a gallon implies you are not paying your share of road taxes. Would you not then be just another parasite?

I read somewhere... maybe here a while back - that people were going to pick up the vegie oil from restaurants. The only problem was that all of the restaurants used and reused the oil until it was about 40% sludge, dark and thick and gooey with contaminants. It was impossible to filter, and kept clogging up the filters, which would then have to be cleaned, and cleaned...

I think it is a lovely little dream but not practicable. I also think I need to stop eating fast food...
