Shotgun houses, shanty shacks
Clustered around old railroad tracks
Don't you think by now it's time
To use new energy sources instead of that

Coalmine, fumes and dust
Damaging Earth's fragile crust
Fuel bosses seeking wealth
Sabotaging workers' health

I can't wait 'till we get home
So we can get those solar panels on
Next week we'll add a wind turbine
And say, "To heck with that coalmine!"

It's careless and it's decadent
It's heck on the environment
To me there'd be nothing quite so fine
As the day when they can shut down that last

Coalmine, fumes and dust

It you don't need the grid for heat and light
Fossil fuel use is asinine--
Not just oil, but the coalmine!
