I use a corn/pellet stove in my house and start my fire with a gel-fire starter purchased at my local hardware store. I find that the gel starter is getting more expensive. I would like to find a recipe to make a home-made gelled firestarter that is less expensive. Does anyone have a recipe to share?

Thinking back to old scout days; we dissolved styrofoam in gasoline until it was a thick gel, kept in a jar it lasted for ages. Just a small wad seemed to work for us. BE CAREFUL ,gas and fire together are dangerous

Another recipe form my scout days too that I use in my woodstove.
Materials: carboard type egg carton
dryer lint
Parafin wax
take the dryer lint and place it into the carton cavity where each egg sits put in as much as you can and compress until its to the top of each rim. Melt the wax and pour it into each cavity until they are full. Allow to cool and completely harden. Cut each cavity out of the carton and there ya go. Lite one up and they burn on average 10 to 20 minutes.
As we all know dryer lint is flammable and the wax makes it burn slower.
