I didn't see this posted anywhere, but wanted to pass this moving piece on.

It seems that patriotism is a lost form or at least is losing luster in our society. I remember recently going to sporting events where people don't take off their hats or place their hand over their hearts during our National Anthem.

Anyway, I recently came across a link to a performance of the Battle Hymn of the Republic that was done by public school students. The song starts with elementary school kids singing. Later they are joined by 4 high school choirs and a high school band.

This is a really incredible and moving performance that's bound to stir the patriot in anyone.

Outstanding !! Great job. I noticed a good while ago, while we were watching a nascar race, and I noticed that very few people stand up any more or salute. Kind of shameful isn't it?

Best version I know, is sung by a few 1,000 of my Bretheren on the dusty road to G-burg. To the tune of our gear and the RRuummFF of our old Brogans on the gritty road. Oh yea, and we are all armed.

* I remember back to elementary school where we learned many such songs. *My favorite will always be America the Beautiful though right behind if not tied with it is God Bless America. *
* This day in age reminds me of a country song from back aways called "God Bless America Again". *The chorus went something like this
* "God Bless America again
* You must see the trouble that she's in
* Wash her pretty face, dry her eyes and then
* God Bless America again!"

* Something I think we all should be praying for that right now.

I found these two videos of the song, the one with Loretta Lynn singing and Bobby Bare reciting is a YouTube video, don't remember who the other one is done by.

www.clipster.com/watch_video/107545 This is sort of a tribute to 9/11.

Hope you enjoy these as much as I did.

Makes me proud to be among you. Guess that's why I love this group as it shines a little light in my sometimes frustrating world and reminds me I am not alone. True patriots still exist. Thanks

I couldn't pull up the videos that MYellowRose mentioned, but it could be because I'm at work now. I can remember when we learned patriotic songs in elementary school, too. They don't do that anymore (I still have 1 in elementary school), but my wife and I feel that kids need to have a sense of pride in our country instilled in them.

Like you all, I am glad to know the people here. It really does feel like home to be with kindred spirits.

Naturally, being from Dixie, the "Battle Hymn of the Republic" is NOT one of my favorites! ;) ;D

That said, I was upset that my kids didn't learn all of those patriotic songs - they even stopped singing them in church. Then I moved to a VERY rural area, and guess what? The students at the High AND the elementary Schools put on Veteran's Day programs where they sang them to honor the invited area vets...

Yeah I teared up. What's it to ya? ;D

Just for WC

So I guess a round of Marchign Threw GA would be bad??

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *On the 4th our church has a major service for our country... they sing all the service hymns, and vets stand up and talk about the army days. *They always tried to be funny about it.

One year my Grandfather, who never spoke of the war.. talked about being drafted and accepting the fact that his life was over and that was that. *But he was left State side due to a botched dental surgery. *He was a clerk. It tor him all up that his pals were all killed on the beaches of France and he was left here.

The Chaplin told him, "Soldier, This is the devine intervention"

sorry, WC struck a heart sting w/ me
