View Full Version : Solar Flares and Solar Systems
I just read in the news this week about increased solar flare activity this summer. Will this affect solar systems?

I don't believe they will.
Solar flare activity causes large amounts of magnetic force to bombard the earth. Large metal objects like power lines and towers for radio communications can collect these magnetic forces and produce electrical currents. These induced currents can overload the power grid with large surges of power and shut it down.

Large amounts of magnetic force. How will that affect computer storage media and video tapes ??????
No nothing that strong, it will only really effect you is you have very sensitive electronics (not most consumer electronics) it could be an issue for power companies due to the miles of wire they have strung about acting like antennas but that is not likely. there will be some interference of some radio communications if you are a HAM. the only thing that most people will notice is some ATMs or other systems that use satellites will not work because they move satellites to different orbits to protect them.
