You can ANYTHING in cast iron. As for acidic stuff such as tomatoes, just don't leave it in there for forever. Remove it to another vessel and clean the CI as you normally would.

Rose, what about cookbooks that have like 10 ingredients or less? They should be real simple for the youngest? Or go to a regular bookstore and browse the simple how-to cookbooks.
