Default My blog about moving towards a simple life

I thought I might as well post a link to my blog in case anyone is interested. I write about my efforts to move towards a simple life and be more self sufficient, even though my husband and I are currently living in the city.

Other than the home schooling, it actually reminds me of my childhood. We lived in the city, but the entire back yard (no more than 60 x 20) was a vegetable garden. Many, many happy memories of eating fresh picked tomatoes with my dad in the early hours. My mother canned everything -- no one else's mom did, she made our own bread (I was 13 before I had anything other than home made bread). She made all of our clothes. I think about the fact that we were undoubtedly below the poverty level now set, but we had an abundance of everthing. If everyone had a garden today, there'd be a lot fewer food stamp recipients.

I think you're doing a great job and I've book marked your page to go back to for inspiration.

I'm trying to simplify, which is hard to do when i'm the primary bread earner, too. Forums like these, blogs like yours, keep me mindful.

Was just reading your blog while munching on beef stew and cranberry salsa...and laughed at your desire to have a 'perfect' Christmas tree and decorating party. It ain't never like the movies, is it! I don't think I ever had one quite as intersting as yours (no kids), but I do remember the one where my sister had all of us to her house (brother, me, niece, nephew, new husband) and realized on Christmas Eve that it was Christmas Eve and she didn't have a tree. Husband, niece and nephew drove all over PHilly and into NJ to find one...which they found abandoned in a closed tree lot and brought back. It was 15' tall (i kid you not) and she lived in an old row house with...yep...15' ceilings! It was the most perfect tree ever -- oh, except it had to be the only thing in the parlor it was so round. My niece and nephew still talk about it 14 years later.

Good Lord, a 15' tree! No wonder it was left behind at the tree lot...
