I think they're taxed on the value of the gold, silver or bronze in the medal.

Some of the tax Money is the tax on the medal itself. But the Winners are paid bonuses by the US Olyipmac committee

watched a short TV report on that. There's a cash prize that goes along with winning a medal, IIRC $20k for the Gold. So it's the same as winning the lottery, it's taxable.

Goes right along with the President's philosophy -- just like business owners don't start their own businesses, Olympians don't do it on their own either, they have to use public roads and bridges to get where they are. So it's "fair" that they should be taxed on their winnings.

The US is the only country that taxes citizens for foreign earnings even when those earnings are taxed by the other country.

IIRC= If I Recall Correctly

Which, at my age, is always something I need to specify.

Interesting article I read.......... entitled.........
Did you ever wonder why sand doesn't stick to Beach Volleyball Players ?
No..... I never considered that. Answer is it is special Olympic sand that is round in shape and not rough broken rocks and shell sand.

However they did show all the hand signals the women volleyball players use by holding there hands behind there fanny. Kind of like a baseball pitcher and catcher signals. That was interesting..............

Enjoy the games........

Did anyone else see where Gabbys mom declared for bankrupcy
shortly after Gabby won gold.

She probably can afford to pay the huge taxes on the winning money.

((and you 2 watch the games---NOT the ladies((forms)) giggle

Well it's over......... Think I enjoyed the opening more so than the closing. Closing was good, just not as much as the opening was.

Guess there was quite a rush at Heathrow and Chadwick. (airports)

Next summer events in Rio......... Man what a party that will be........
(how do you say ohh-la-la in Portuguese ?)

Anyone know where the winter events will be held..... ??

(So we can watch snow bunnies Annie)

LOL

If I had been there--I'd have left before the ((spice girls) got on stage--cant stand them)

Snow bunnies?
They will have heavy suits on--it will be cold (winter) no bare (lol) midriffs or other sides will be seen.

Rio--sounds great--saw a bit of it on news last nite---sure is beautiful---party cities.
