Default What is being civilized

I have often thought that being civilized as we think it means in America is highly overrated. Being less civilized would make it a simpler world to live in.

I am about PC'd out and civilized out of patience.

Being realy really waiting on an idiot liberal to get in my face---I got about 3 good minutes left in me.

And bail money.

Hmmm. I guess you'd have to explain a little more about what kind of "civilized" you're talking about here, Bob.

To me, civilized is treating others the way I'd like to be treated. It means trusting those who are trustworthy, being alert to those who aren't; it means rules that we all agree to follow for the "common good"...

like stopping at red lights, taking turns, being polite. For starters, anyway.

Being civilized is:

1. Being in the same room with your MIL and not 'tuning her up'. Just smile and walk away.

2. Being in the same room as that 'nosy obnoxious SIL' and not 'tuning her up'. Just smile, and walk away.

3. Letting a person go ahead of you in the grocery line because they have 5 items and you have 45 items.

4. Chewing with your mouth closed.

5. Knowing when to shut your mouth.

6. Knowing when someone else is NOT going to shut their mouths, so you opt to excuse yourself from the conversation.

7. Saying "May I please ______ and Thank you" to the lady at the deli counter, bakery, drive though window.

8. Not telling crude or off color jokes in mixed company.

9. Hanging a ladies coat when you go out to dinner, or over to a friends house, or to a party.

10. When the parking lot is packed and you are trying to get out......let someone in so they can get out too.

The Passive folks want 'civilized' to mean 'wuss'.
Heck, they change our history books to rearrange history to be what THEY want it to be.
They change how to do math, making 100 X more complicated than it needs to be, then blame the teachers for not teaching it.
They have completely eliminated any moral code.
So yeah.......they are trying to "redefine" the word "civilized".....but this old fart, and her 3 kids KNOWS what it means!!!

My next question/questions would be who made up the definition for being civilized and has the different generations changed the meaning. It seems to me that in todays version you can't hold people accountable for lies, misconduct, and other bodily assaults without being labeled as paranoid, homophobic, bigot etc; etc; It almost seems like a synonym for civility is socialism.

Sure the generations have changed the meaning.
They change history (and the history books) every year.

To me, that has nothing to do with being civilized.
That's all PC garbage.

Naw.
If we disagree with someone we are not 'civil'.
If we agree with everything everyone says we are 'blind fools'.
If we are honest, show integrity, and honor?
THEN we are labeled. What is good will be called evil.
And what is evil, will be called good.

I have heard it said that barbarians were very polite!

Because if somebody was rude, then the offended person just might attack, and it is rarely worth being in a fight for your life just to be rude.

I haave no idea if this is true or not, of course!

Just stumbled onto this thread. Don't know that I could honestly consider myself to be a philosipher, probably spelled that wrong, But I cant help but to think back to the saying that "an armed society is a polite society." Seems reasonable to me.

Another random thought that I have pondered many times, if it doesn't fit this catergory, please move it. In the Wild West, back in the day, a person could move to a new place, and change their name, occupation, etc., and that was their name. I have often pondered how that would affect ones geanology? If I said my name was "Jack Smith," and my kids were given the Smith name, does that make them "Smiths'" even though my name was really Joe Brown, Jr.? Any thoughts? Is there any way to know for sure that we are who we think we are, any religious aspects aside? I do have my own beliefs, but my mind can wonder from time to time, or most of the time. Anyone have anything to add to my random thoughts that I have while I should be asleep?

Enough deep thoughts for me tonight. Hope someone has some thoughts.

To me being civilized is planting a tree that will never shade me in my lifetime...

I think I borrowed and paraphrased someone's quote there, but to me, that is civilization. Whether to avoid attack or to have a tall Oak shading a weary person on their journey, thinking of the future is civilization. To me.

Dang! Guess I had better call NBC as I might be a prepper!! Ooops... guess I had better not call NBC as that wouldn't be a civilized action considering my words above...

Durn ya, Bob!! Ya got's me confused and chasing my tail again, and I gave that up for lint! or is it Lent? hmmmm...

Well, I just don't know. What I do know is that seagulls are prohibited from flying over bays and such now! Yuppers, seagulls CANNOT fly over bays anymore. Only bagels can do that...

Luv's y'alls, but gotta go get some stuff done so till next time

John

That's alright John confusion is what makes for an interesting trip in life. I'm glad they have stopped the seagulls from flying over the bays because bagels taste better anyhow. Was it the fish and lame that made that decision ?
