Default A Breach of Trust.....

the full title is Breach of Trust: How Americans Failed Their Soldiers and Their Country by Andrew Bacevich

It has the premise that we should have a draft and that all Americans should have " some skin in the game" when we go to war. A position also held by retired Gen McCrystal.

I have requested it at the local library and am looking forward to reading it.

Yep and it was the people in the street that forced an end to it - because they had skin in the game. Wrong board for this but you've head me say this before .
Ought to be a good read.

Folks who would be drafted can now vote. That was not the case in the Vietnam era (for the most part). That would help control the extent to which a drafted military could be used.
