Default Greetings!

Hello all. I've been a subscriber of the magazine for a couple years now, just joining the forum.

We live in southern California. Not exactly a backwoods homesteading paradise, but we're lucky enough to live in a small semi-rural feeling community where we have a bit more space than the average SoCal tract home. We tend a variety of fruit trees here, some of which date back to the middle of the last century when this area was originally developed as orchards, and some of which we've planted ourselves. We grow avocados, a variety of citrus, plums, apricots, pluots, persimmons, and pomegranates - about 45 trees in all. In the remaining space we keep a modest vegetable garden.

We bought a home on 20 acres in north Idaho last year, and plan to move there in a couple years when I retire. We have a lot to learn about short season gardening, keeping chickens, shifting from our tropical fruit varieties to apples and more stone fruits, and a whole lot more. I'm looking forward to becoming more active here and trading ideas with the rest of the community.

Dave
