Default throttle problem 6.5 GM diesel

Got a 2000 model gm diesel 6.5, truck has had a problem of dying, sometimes of not starting . leave it sit for an hour & it fires right up, may run fine for a week & 1000 miles, it may die in two minutes , then may fire back up immedietly or not start for a half hour. Its been to the gm shop 20 times in last ten + years, they never found anything wrong with it. But they replaced fuel system parts often to see if that would stop the problem.

No idiot lights came on until recently, a few weeks ago the service throttle light came on as it died.

Anyone got any ideas? Hopefully someone not on my ignore list.

oh well, he didn't know how to work on it anyhow though.

tachometer doesn't work sometimes, starting to sound like maybe something wrong with an " electronic" throttle, it totally cuts out, the throttle, absolutely nothing from the throttle pedal, but the engine continues to idle.

Dies OK I need more details?
My instrument PNL went out so did a friend D's. The panel is going bad. This is a known defect. You can get a new PNL off eBay about 300.00.

As far as your engine going dead. I was gonna say fuel filter, but has the tank ev er been pulled to see if it has debries in it. That may be blocking the fuel intake.

Tank pressure ? Return fuel and cooler ?
Look here this is not a new problem. http://www.a1customs.com/pdc_pmd_fsd...ver_cooler.htm
I sold my 2003 duramax that iszuzu engine is great.

My Ford 350 diesel was having strange problems. Not starting at all, but if it did, the throttle pedal didn't do anything, the engine idled at only ~350-400 RPM.

Someone suggested disconnecting both batteries so the computer would go completely dead. This makes the computer reboot.

That did the charm for my truck. Started right up after that and haven't had another problem since, for the last 40K miles.

I really appreciate the input.
something that happened to this truck some years ago, is that while the repair shop was trying to fix the problem with the truck, they put a really powerful fuel pump on it. the fuel pump imploded the fuel tank on itself because the cap was not venting properly or quickly enough.

Also they put a new drive on it several times but it didn't seem to solve it.

Iv unhooked the battery's & let it set a few days.

Why would I have you on my ignor list ?

This truck was dying ten years ago. Always been a problem. The guys at the GMC shop always slapped a new drive, a pmd, on it & sent it out the door.

Your suggestion about the fuel, & blackpowders link about damaged drives, pmd's , makes me wonder if the motor isn't timed right , the fuel isn't burning right, & when it's idling , the knock is damaging the pmd.

But I'm going to soon be putting a different one on.

I'm no expert but I would think it has to be electrical. If that motor doesn't get fuel it would lose prime and not be able to fire back up without purging the air out. Hopefully the computer reboot works for you. I hate electrical issues.. I struggle with em.

ordered a new computer into the local parts house today.
$210.
I don't know why General Motors started putting such ridiculous things on their motors or why anybody did, my 1990 diesel does not have one of those computer boxes.
