Default morels

Is anyone hunting for morels yet? We are still several weeks away from the greys and blacks making an appearance.

Still too soon here in south-central Wisconsin. There need to be a few leaves out on the undergrowth plants.

However . . . if you ask me where I found MINE, I'd tell you "In the woods."

The best book I've found for 'shroom hunting in this area is "Edible Wild Mushrooms of Illinois and Surrounding States" by McFarland and Mueller. Great photos, lots of excellent tips on safe mushroom hunting, interesting recipes, and a good, interesting writing style.

I've been drooling on those pages for months! Soon I hope to be putting it to the test.
