Default Rare Earth

Saw this on 60 Minutes yesterday...check out "Rare Earth" segment here:

We (US) didn't follow through on rare earth (opportunities) China did and now affects our defense systems.

Something to think about...

I think there are other locations for rare earth metals, but China mines them without regard to the environmental consequences. In the U.S., it is difficult or impossible to mine anything now due the protests and lawsuits tying up progress for years and costing millions. There should be a middle ground somewhere between causing environmental disaster and not being able to develop resources. America's hands are tied, so exploration rarely even goes on here since the companies know they won't be able to develop anything they find.

Well said Don.

The EPA is the greatest weapon our enemies have going for them. The EPA saw to it that our single remaining lead smelter closed its doors late last year. Now we are dependent upon China and Argentina (IIRC it is Argentina) for our lead supplies.
