I was able to see the link in Youtube to part 1 but I had already started with part 2 so part 1 will have to wait until I finish part 2 so far interesting.

I like stuff like that. Thanks. After viewing part I, two thoughts strike me:

-as a city kid, living in congestion my whole life, my goal has been one of trying to get away from people. But those people, living more or less in isolation, find enjoyment in periodic gatherings-- church, hunting, etc.

- life and thought processes are so different in the city compared to rural living. Our "leaders" haven't got a clue as to what's important to most folks in this country. They are big city oriented, and particularly east coast oriented. No wonder we're failing, having gotten away from what made us great. [I sound like Livy, writing his history of Rome, in the 1st century, after the republic had fallen.]

H

Not necessarily germane to the thread but why should leaders be more interested in big city's since that's where most Americans live. To assume only rural folk know what's right or wrong is silly.

Btw Shannon county is by far democratically controlled.

I'm talking sociology, not politics. I didn't say anybody was right or wrong, just that the country folks depicted in the film have a much simpler outlook on things than the city folks I know.

Most Americans don't live in "big cities' like Chicago, NY, Boston or LA, but our politicians are from cities like those, or at least have been co-opted to that thought paradigm by training and experience. Remember how Bush I was criticized for never having shopped at a "big box" store?

I remember when the American Dream was to work hard and provide for your family in freedom and safety. Now the American Dream is to fall down in the Walmart and sue for big bucks.
