Default Living in the wild

Anyone ever watch Ben Fogle and the series he did on people that live off grid? I thought that his series was one of the better ones. Search for it on youtube.

Just watched several last evening, very interesting people. Some of them, I'm sure as with most groups of people, seem a little off but hey, normal people are boring. Will definitely keep watching as I have time.

Txanne - check out the series Life Below Zero. You can watch it on TV or on the computer via Hulu Plus. There's two hardcore ladies on there- both in Alaska, one is all the way up the north slope, by herself for most of the year. The other is married; she is a native and he is white, and she raises lots of kids and does the whole subsistence living / native skills and they are both AWESOME!

After reading this thread, I looked up the series and watched two of his U-tube videos. I may watch a few more, and would definitely watch more if it wasn't for the constant rewinding (going back over the same thing just to lengthen the video's?) his video's involve, or at least the two I watched involved.

I hadnt heard about this series--seems it is always some burly men in bear skins doing these things--with cameras and medical standing by.

Real reality is being BY yourself 24/7 with only your wits to live by---been there done that.

Nothing glamorous or tv-ish about it-----they'd have got in my way----Not having a husband or even kids to help-----standing alone can be scary as hell----but you will go into survival mode----no tv cameras needed to push you in to performing.

Just saying

i salute all that go at it alone without applause or accolades--they are the true pioneers.

While I was looking for Ben Fogle I ran across one from National Geographics, Living in the Wold, 2015 and that is about a woman teaching people to live off the wild. She just gave up living the city life in England and left it behind and she is defiantly first hand at doing what one must to survive in the wild.
Thanks for the heads up offtheradar.I think this type of searching the web for ideas will help greatly.

Thanks for the heads up

Not wanting to be off topic, but have you watched the one where the woman is quitting homesteading
I wanted to watch it, but I could not get over her whining speak.and her constantly sounding like she was asking a question

Neat link! Sue is kinda famous up north. She operates a remote hunting camp for a bush airline. She gets company during the warmer months, but once the weather sets in, she is truly alone. She is, however within reach of an airplane if there is an emergency...she just has to clear a runway in the snow. Tough to do if you are injured or sick. You can tell that most of these folks have income outside subsistence by the equipment they have. Sometimes "subsistence" in Alaska is a code word for "welfare and Medicaid". There are, however a few folks that do live a subsistence lifestyle, but they are very poor and usually get their income from trapping.
