Default BHM's new server

Many of you will have noticed that, for a long time, there were periods where the Forum was slow to load or would give database errors.

Today, we took a big step toward resolving all that when our IT guys finished moving the whole BHM site to a new, dedicated server that's so fast...well...compare the top land speed of a turtle and a cheetah.

That said, there may still be little kinks to work out, so I'm asking everyone to please let me know via email to webmaster[at]backwoodshome.com if you notice anything amiss with the Forum or any part of the website. If you encounter a database error, please note the time in your email.

More changes are coming, including a new look for the main website and for the page that "contains" the Forum, although the Forum itself will remain the same.

Thank you all for your patience over the past months.

Oliver

And thank you, Oliver and crew, for providing a truly relevant and civil place to hang out!

Thanks for the updates. It's good to know the system is performing as expected. That said, please do continue to watch for anything amiss and let me know if you find something.

I meant to say "when I couldn't access", not could.

The look my opinion just the way I look at the forum. All the ads on the right side of the screen is a distractions and would prefer if they were on the left side of the screen. or an option to click and let them slide away.

I'm not thrilled that ad videos automatically start playing. For those of us on slow internet providers, that is a huge problem.

With everything shifted to the left - including/especially the text entry box for posting - makes me feel so off kilter that I can't stay here long.....

I'll keep posting but I agree it feels like we have half a screen to use.

While I'm not crazy about the adds... I suppose that is how it works in the world today to keep things at this price.. The adds on the left or right hasn't been that hard to get used to.. No problems with pop ups and other things here at BWH, and good speed at my rock pile..

However... I have had a bunch of trouble with other stuff.. For instance.. Trying to look through something like "30 Scariest People seen at Walmart" while trying to toggle through the pictures.. NOTHING works until the adds finish loading with each toggle.. Then there was the horribly annoying lock up and message saying "flash player crashed" or close to that... By the time you clear that you are back to desk top.. @#$%

I installed "flashblock" it worked for a while really well.. But it was a little difficult to get to let you tube play some videos..

Then Firefox did a "update" without asking first.. Flashblock seemed to be gone and back to the way it was... I guess I'm stuck with what I got..

Thanks for making it as user friendly as can be considering this day and age... Especially with my lack of computer knowledge..

Enjoy...

Anything that speeds up the process is welcome, so thanks. The locking up while waiting for ads isn't limited to just this website, I get flustered with it all the time, usually find something else to do while I wait. It was 12 degrees here this morning so you folks stay warm.
