Default Well wellness. polish rod/stuffing box

How critical is it that the polish rod be perfectly centered in the cylinder/ stuffing box. I usually try with shims, where possible to make it as vertical as possible from several angles. The leathers are not rigid so I'm wondering how anal I should be about being perfect. I know perfect is the goal. But it's an imperfect world we live in. That's partly why we are here and not on facedork.

This is my guess as never done that. To me it sounds like asking oneself how much maintenance / repair do you want to do to keep the thing working is the answer. But will definitely to defer to others with more knowledge.
