Default Restoration + Engraving

Howdy -

Back when I was 12, my Uncle Duke gave me his first rifle that he used for deer hunting, which is a pre-micro groove Marlin 336 RC in .35 Rem.

It was in horrible condition at the time, so it became a project for me and my Father. Used it for many years.

My Uncle is pretty fragile these days, and I'm thinking of having it professionally restored and some light engraving done. Will either have Duke or The Duke as part of the engraving.

I think it will be pretty special for him to see the final transformed project -

So, my question is: Anyone have personal experience with a talented company that does this type of work? My default is to select Turnbull, but I hear the turn around time is a year or so. He may not have that much time though ....

Possible solution ?? If time is a factor... Maybe his initials on it by a local jeweler ?? Just leave them in the white, coat with a metal preservative and do your complete restore later..

For him the memories would be stirred.. And you will have time to preserve your memories after nature takes it's course..

There are a lot of places doing laser engraving these days that might be of interest and faster turn around. Obviously not quite the same thing as a hand cut engraving but still some spectacular things can be done.
