Lightbulb Overwintering geraniums - My method

Hello friends,

For saving my geraniums before the first frost, I use this method.

I didn't do anything to my scented geraniums last year and they came back just fine. Now, I do live in FL, but it does freeze here just not long at a time.

Jardinier, please forgive me if this is a stupid question. But what is the purpose of digging up the geraniums and then repotting them? Is it just because they are probably in a pot outside that is too big to bring into the house?
