Default Hello from Oregon

Hi,
Brand new here, but thought I should introduce myself.
I go by Estrie online. I am in my early 50's and was born and raised in Oregon. After living in Georgia for two years with my first husband, we divorced (3 gorgeous, grown kids out of it, but man, if I knew then what I know now....) and I moved to Australia after a year or so to be with my new man. Well, long story short, we are happily married for almost 5 years now and I have come back to the US dragging him with me.
I am currently working at a non-profit in Salem, living in a 2 bedroom apt, but my father is quite ill and I may have to make arrangements to go to Douglas County to care for him. He has a new house in town, but his old place is up for grabs. It is two acres of riverfront property, in the country, near a small town (abt 6 miles out) there is a nice two bedroom house with a small apt attached where my grandmother used to live. It has a well and grandfathered in irrigation rights from the river. My mother had a fantastic garden, but the foxes kept getting her chickens so she gave up on that. Great fishing, nice enough neighbors and we can have it for just over $100,000 (It was last valued at $350,000).
The problem, you ask? I can't find a job down there and my husband doesn't have permission to work in the US yet (he has double citizenship with Aus and England, but not here yet). I am trying to talk my boss into letting me tele-commute and only come in here once a week, but the board doesn't like that idea. At this point we still have income from Australia but that ends at the end of the year.
Will keep everyone posted.

Thanks, I am meeting with my state supervisor later today to discuss if there is someway I can work from 150 miles away, either telecommuting or working at the sister company in Roseburg. I will meet with my boss tomorrow. I don't have much hope, though.

Had THE discussuion with my overall supervisor, she was very understanding. She said if my immediate supervisor didn't mind me telecommuting and working from Douglas County she would okay it to keep me. It is totally up to him though. She said if he didn't say okay to start looking for another job and she would give me an excellent recommendation. One more hurdle.

Thanks for the support, folks.

Default Welcome

Lived in Myrtle Creek and Riddle many years back. Canyonville is a nice place. You might look outside of Roseburg for work, your a little closer to Medford and only about an hour and a half from Eugene. Those might be a little bigger venues to look in.

Good Luck!

Yeah, we will be looking up to Eugene, but that is almost as bad as driving to Salem, really. This is my best bet for now, then to get the husband okayed to look for work. I think we can do it.
Will keep you all posted.
