Default Good news from Oregon newbie

Well I spoke to my boss today and he has no issues with me moving to the Douglas County office considering my dad's condition and all. He is making some calls today to try to set things up for that to happen soon. We might be on our two acres as soon as Thanksgiving!! We will, for sure, be there before Christmas and I get to keep my job so we can actually even eat! AND my brother thinks he can line up some temporary work for my husband so we might even be able to have heat and a phone! LOL!! Geez, I missed my family while I was in Australia!!
Well, I am posting from work so I had better go. I will be on here ALOT as we will be working toward self-sufficiency and getting the man set up to work full time so I can stay home and work our place when this contract runs out. I am contracted until June next year, after that we want to be a one income family, but we also want to get the place paid off in 15 years time so....
Man, lots of work, but it's good to have goals, eh?
Thanks for the support, y'all!!!

Greetings, Estrie!

Good to hear your family's dreams are being realized! Just keep at it, through the good times and the bad times, and you'll make it through, together.

Best Wishes,

DocSoos

Great new.
Sounds like your boss appreciates what you do and is will to do what it take to keep you working.
Keep us posted on your move.
Wonder how fast the internet connection is in the boonies.
Great area to live.

That sounds like great news for you.

Prayers and well wishes that all goes well and you'll be eating Thanksgiving turkey at your table on your land.

I'm happy for you. I'll never forget the excitement of starting a homestead and building a small (VERY small- lol) house. Every story we see of someone actually attaining homesteading and self-reliant goals is exciting.

Keep us informed. As you begin to make your transition, you might want to consider starting a thread in our Homesteading area and include photos. We would all like to watch your dream as it unfolds.

Hmmm, my random question at the top of the page this time was, The US Constitution begins with which three words? Found myself then wondering how many of my kids friends could answer that question?

Thanks Paul. We are heading down there this weekend to take some pics and do some cleaning and planning. I will start a thread. Luckily my folks lived there for about 20 years and were pretty self-sufficient. Not that they were survivalists or anything, they just both grew up dirt poor and believe in being prepared!!
We are so lucky, we have a house, a well, river water, a garden space, room for chickens (and a family of foxes, my sister tells me ) as well as some wood, etc.

Well I have to go now, the boss needs to lock up.
More later.

WOW! Even better, as you're not starting from scratch with a bare piece of land. Thought maybe that you were going to put a mobile home or travel trailer on the place, just to set up residence.

Don't worry about the foxes, yet. Enjoy the fact that you'll be seeing wild life on your place. Later, good fences and other measures will protect your chickens.
