Hi from Front Royal, Virginia in the Shenendoah vally. I can see the Shenendoah river from my back deck. The hiking along the Appalachian Trail in the Shenendoah Park is great.

Default I LOVE VIRGINIA!

I'm new to this forum....been wanting to move away from it all, but not go off grid....I just want a more simple life. Living in Northern VA now and am tired of all the hustle bustle and people not being friendly.....it puts me in a fowl mood.....I have horses (rent a barn) and 2 barn cats, 2 lazy labs.....I want to raise some chickens this spring.....since my barn is about 8 miles away, I do a lot of driving.....would love to have something in my backyard.....one day.

Pulaski here... stuck in town. Currently looking for opportunities in Carroll or Grayson County. Either that, or maybe I hightail it back to Oregon. I'm SO sick of the humidity on this side of the Rockies.

Live and work in Norfolk - Virginia Beach

Have ten acres close to Farmville - will retire there in 2014 to raise some pigs and chickens...and do some gardening... have friends that board and train horses next door, other friends that have cows and other friends that raise LAMBS...(and sheep of course).

building a pre engineered building for barn/warehouse/storage/animal processing...

building a permanent home -- will have solar power along with wood heat and propane generator...

will be able to support my kids and family if the grid goes down and the stores close...

Its an ongoing project. And it will be a place my kids can use once I am gone...

Can't believe I just found this thread... then again, some days it's a miracle if I find my way outta bed.

Up on the side o' the hill in Elliston here - betwixt Roanoke/Salem and Blacksburg/Va Tech.

I realize it's rather late in the season, but I want to learn how to slaughter an animal. Chicken, rabbit, pig, goat, whatever... I've never done this before and would like to get a feel for it before committing myself.

If you're in Pulaski, Wythe, or Carroll county, PM me and let's chat a bit.

Oh, I'm also looking for a meat counter with some decent soup bones. None of the stores near me seem to cut their own meat anymore. If you know of any place around, let me know.

Depending on what I sell on Saturday, I may very well be doing a pig or two in February. You are welcome to come check out the process if you desire. We will probably do a run of chickens in the spring and a beef in march, weather permitting.

Sounds great. I really hope I have the stomach for it. I've watched many videos, and while they may give an idea of what to expect, I'm sure it doesn't do any sort of justice to the actual experience.

Out of curiosity, what do you sell and to whom do you sell it? What regulations do you have to follow when selling meat?
