Default Hello from the Shawnee National Forest in Illinois

Hello all, I have in the shadows read many post and have decided to jump in. You are "my kind of people".
My husband and I live on 10 acres in the middle of the Shawnee National Forest in southern Illinois. Our children are grown but still live close by and share grandchildren with us often.

I am happy and proud to say we built our home ourselves 10 years ago with alot of sweat but loved every mintue of it.

I enjoy gardening, canning, perserving food, goats, chickens, guineas, dogs and cats.

My husband retires next year but I'm afraid I will have to work 12 more years. (I've got to figure out a way to shorten that.)

We live a simple life "as simple as I can make it" and love it.

Anyway, I won't bore you anymore, but I'll be posting questions and giving comments when I can.

Again I am glad to have found you.

Welcome to the forum. One thing for sure, anything you build yourself has alot of your spirit (AND sweat/blood) in it. I love the feeling of being able to stand back and see just what was accomplished. You cant buy that from a brochure.

Welcome aboard>

Great country you live in . I grew up on a Southern Illinois hill farm south of Chester.

Did you ever get over to Grand Tower when Hales was still open ?

No, I've never been up to Grand Tower. What was Hales?

I live almost on the Ohio River and I must say I don't care much for the river. My husband on the other hand loves the river. I would like to live farther out in the woods, where you have to break the sticks to see daylight, and he would love to live on the river. That's life for ya!!!!
