I saw your post and went out there and tried it.

First I typed in a line and hit enter - it displayed in the chat window.

Next I copied a line from a web page - it pasted here in the message window of this reply but not in the chat window. I was able to repeat the problem with FireFox. Tried explorer but it seems to have locked up (thanks a lot MicroSoft!).

Looks like the problem is that only text originating in the chat can be copied, cut & pasted.

This wasn't always the case. Something has changed. I remember problems with clicking on links people had pasted in chat - chat didn't do well with calling the browser and sending it to the link. Links had to be cut and pasted from chat to the browser.

It would also appear that text copied from chat cannot be pasted in this window.

Thanks for reporting this. Admin will see this the next time he logs in. May be constraints imposed by security. We had a problem once with a spammer in chat trying to spoof people. May also be problems from any recent java updates - who knows?

Regards,
Pat

From what I can determine on the software website, the problem my be the result of the recent Java update.

Only copy and paste from other applications was affected in my test. You can still C&P text within the Chat Room, though I can't imagine why you'd want to do so.

If any members have not installed the recent update, please test the CTRL-C and CTRL-V copy & paste commands the next time you are in the Chat Room and let us know if it still works for you.

Thanks.

Thanks, sissy. That seems to confirm it is the Java update that's causing the problem.

I've contacted the chat software providers to see what, if anything can be done about the issue.

I heard back from the Chat tech. Below is what he had to say.

Unless you really, really need copy & paste in a Java environment, I recommend waiting for the next update.

=============================================

Hello Oliver,

We've just recently been made aware of these apparent bugs in the latest build of Java 1.6. This security release appears to have unintentionally disabled both copy and paste using CTRL/CMD commands as well as hot-linking to remote images using the IMG tag.

We're currently awaiting further information from Oracle regarding this and hope their next build resolves these issues.

In the meantime, we recommend uninstalling Java from your system and downgrading to Java 1.6.0_23 (Java 1.6 build 23). You may download a copy from http://www.oldapps.com/java.php

Regards,

Greg C.

Oliver..

The reason this has been an issue in chat is because folks come in asking questions and we discuss so many issues.. and the links we offer each other are such a help.

Thank You so much for providing us the chatroom.. a place where friendships become family .
