Default Hello from the Midwest

Hi, I have been reading various articles on this site for a bit. Although I live in a small town (with ugh zoning laws), I am a country gal at heart! I am hoping I can continue to learn from others "living the dream" and maybe I can through in a few things too.
My husband and I are in the process of completely rebuilding our house. And I mean rebuilding, not remodeling LOL! We have 4 grown children, and 5 grandchildren. We enjoy gardening (I do the canning), and hope to at least get a few chickens...well, after we can get a privacy fence! Our house sits on 2 city lots so we do have some space for being in town. We can only do what we can do - I'll have my big farm when I go to be with the Lord!
I chose the username Hooverville in honor of our economic situation - when we first bought our house we parked a very old motorhome in the yard to live in! So, I named our property Hooverville. Yeah, I'm kinda weird like that...

Thumbs up Welcome!

There are a lot of folks here like you and me, living in town and wishing we had a little more space, and a lot more freedom. We do what we can with what we have. You will find a lot of ideas of how people adapt and deal with the city codes. You can see in my picture, here my latest project.
A 96 sq ft building, since the city will regulate anything over 100 sq ft.

I hope you'll get to move from Hooverville soon.

Thanks, DavidOH! Where do I find the picture of your latest project? Still trying to figure out how all the options work...

Welcome! I to live with in city limits, but my town is only 38 thousand so smaller then some. I have 5 chickens and plan to get 4 more next spring. Doing bucket gardening right now. I just got my first egg last week and the girl gives me one every day. Waiting on the other 4 to start also.

welcome! even though i have the room for a garden, small animals etc I haven't the time in my life right now to garden and tend but someday when I retire (another 20 years) i will be! We have brutal winters so i hesitate on starting to raise animals, to build out buildings that are weather safe and to buy the snow clearing equipment is expensive!
