Default New member Hello

I am a new member here just getting ready to retire from military and looking for a good place to settle down. Thinking somewhere in the Midwest. I am considering buying an old farm with 40 acres or so. Any advice on location would be appreciated. I am using my last 2 years to get out of debt.

Welcome to the forum from SC MO. Sounds like you have a good plan. Lots of good advice here for you. What part of the Midwest are you looking at??? If you have a state in mind, I expect people will chime in.

welcome from KY. And like the others thanks for the service. Let us know what area your looking for. No matter where there is probably someone on here close. and most folks here will help with answers to any questions. when you start looking for land remember quality tops quantity I have 124 pretty junky acres and would rather have 10 good acres than this whole place. Water is very important I would never buy another place that didn't have the ability to provide water. this one is reclaimed strip mine and you can't even dig a well that will provide water. Just one thing to think about when looking.

Hi Razor, very glad to have you here.

You might want to check income/property/sales taxation levels in the different states you are considering. Your retirement might not go as far in some states as in others. And climate might be another factor, whether you would rather deal with prolonged cold or heat, and various rainfall averages.

This website has interesting climate and other data on various cities that might help you narrow it down:
