Default The Sinking Of The Raider J

Many People mistakenly believe that The Merchant Marine is a branch of the Military, it is not, and Merchant Seaman are not in the service.
Many people also mistakenly believe that the Military transports its own cargo, also not true, in very war from the Revolution to Iraq and Afghanistan, the Government contracts with private shipping companies to haul it’s freight some on ships owned by the government and operated by private companies, but most simply on the ships each shipping company owns.
Of course there’s an old saying “armatures talk tactics, and professionals talk logistics” So during World War Two there were over 1500 Merchant Ships sank by direct enemy action, making it more dangerous to be a Civilian Merchant Seaman, than to be in the Military (true fact)
In light of this, it’s worth noting that there was one US ship that sunk a German warship in WWII. One
What was her main armament? One 4" deck gun. One.
