I've heard about Costco and even watched a show on TV about it - I also wish we had one around here.

Grocery shopping is quite a chore for us. In the second nearest town that has a little variety (20 miles away), there are a Giant Eagle (chain grocery), super Wal-Mart, and a Save-a-lot which is similar to Aldi. During the 2 weeks between shopping trips, my wife is constantly watching the store ads and on-line specials. The day before the grocery run she splits her list up into 3 parts (actually more than 3 to include Dollar Tree and Dollar General) putting the items on the list into the appropriate store list where the items are on sale or the cheapest. Makes for a long day in and out of 5 stores, but the savings are well worth it.

That plus coupons also. We don't have any newspapers around here, so she will actually buy coupons on ebay. I thought that was crazy myself paying for coupons, but the benefit is real. It just makes me mad that she has to buy coupons from people who get them free.

I didnt know that about ebay coupons?
Do you have a copy machine where she could down load them from coupon sites for free.

Now days (thank God for a deligent wife) if we dont watch our pennies somebody else will take them.

On off shopping days---If I need an outting(its not far for me) I just walk the aiseles and look for un-advertised bargins.

At one time we had a coupon trading thread here---and I dont have any links for free coupons--they're out there tho.

What little I buy they do not have coupons or be rare. I got food Thursday and then went shopping in big city with my kids Friday. I needed to go to the bank and hearing aid guy. Got mv vitamins and some stuff to stock up on. Cereal, crackers, nuts, peanut butter , really not much food yesterday but all in all I spent about $250 for it and vitamins not counting Thursday. I have it all to mark and put away. I was tired when I got home yesterday. But it feels good to be this far stocked for winter. I still have a few more things to check.

There have not been many specials in our area lately.

Butter went from $2.48 a lb to $3.98--blew my mind(whats left of it)

Fresh produce is hitting the stores so thats a plus.

We use the aldi equivalent of sheds crock pot at $1.99.
Yep produce is in the store. Strawberries at 99 cents per box ( pint I guess ) not those giants with no taste. Good ones

I hate those big tasteless things.

Lot of Pecos Cantalopes and watermelons.
Now summer is here.

I have gotten away from margarine.
But we have that and Parkay on sale.

Potatoes are very reasonable.
10# bag is $2.29--last year they were 6.00.

My wife likes those Yukon Gold potatoes. She turns her nose up at the others. But 5lbs is $6! I could buy 20# of another variety for that price.. or close to it.

Do you have the space to grow your own?

Great idea.
They will grow in deep enough tubs.
(make sure whatever you plant in has plenty of drainage)

Too much water can be the enemy of taters.

I use a little butter. I can not use soybean oil, shortening, margarine . If I did would have to take a lot more blood thinner. No greens as they are the worst thing I could eat. Cole family also bad for me. They tell me not eat that stuff. I have to watch what kind peanut butter I get. Cost more to eat in some ways I know. But I can eat meat and potatoes , bread and root crops. Corn little amount of green beans and peas. I have to measure green beans and peas. . Milk I drink . About no fruit. I can eat beans, rices and pastas. Just stay low on vit K. I stay way from cereals full of salt and sugar. Corn meal is good for mush and fried beside bread.

I still need to check my bean supply and rice. I know plenty of pasta and I can make pastas. I have flour.

Yes, I do. But we just moved into this new place last fall and I had so much other work to do here this spring that I didn't put in a large enough garden.

In the past I have grown Kennebec potatoes. They seem to store best for us.
