Default Hello from the Cornhusker State!

Hello everyone!

I have been a long time lurker here on the boards and have learned from and enjoyed reading so many of your posts!
I have had the homestead bug for a number of years, after picking up my first copy of Backwoods Home Magazine I knew exactly what I wanted to do with my life. Unfortunately, modern society already had a strong hold on our family and it has taken quite a few years to convince my wife (who is as city as a city girl can get) that the simple life is the way to go. I think she is on board most days!

I grew up out in rural Nebraska, not knowing it then, but growing up in the kind of atmosphere that most 18 year olds in a small town run from, only to look back at thirty and regret not going back. Sooo....

Now we are on our quest to find our homestead. We are steadily saving money to purchase land and to build a homestead with. (We both HATE debt!) We are trying to learn as many of the skills of our great grandparents that we can, before we absolutely are dependent on them.

We have two boys, 7 (8 in a couple of weeks) and 4; we are looking forward to at least one if not two more!

Thank you to everyone on this forum and a bug thank you to BHM for providing a place for like minded individuals can just chat!

-Trev

Feel welcome, may your dreams come true, while your kids are still kids.

Welcome. If you're stuck in Omaha, it looks like I'm about 40 miles NW of you.

Thanks for the welcome all!

I usually go to several forums and blogs a day, but I swear, once I found the backwoods home forum, I rarely go to any other websites!

John: Thanks for the welcome!

Annie: I really enjoyed reading through your adventures and can't wait until your book comes out!

BWM: Thanks! We are really trying hard to get our kids out of a metropolitan area and back into the country. We would love for our kids to be able to go out in the yard without one of us watching them like a hawk!

Hunter: Hello neighbor! I'm guessing up in the Fremont area? What do you think of this messed up spring we are having?

Yeah I'm about 8 or 9 miles northeast of Fremont as the crow flies. But since I'm on the east side of the Elkhorn River there are no roads the way the crow would fly, so it's a bit farther when driving.

Huner88- that's great! Sounds like you are around the Arlington area, we have looked at a few properties in that area, but nothing that we have fell in love with by any means.

Yeah I'm north of Arlington. It's a bit of a drive if you have to go to Omaha to work every day.
