Default Humbugs Homesteading Adventures

I have been a forum member for quite a few years. I have always lived in the country and my parents were homesteaders. I currently live on 1/2 acre where I have chickens, pheasants and I garden. I have a 40 acre parcel of land that is about 5 hours from where I currently live. I hope to completely develop it. I work at a job where on a rotating schedule where I work long days but have almost half of the month off. This gives me time to pursue my homesteading addiction. LOL...
I am currently busy getting things done in the garden here on the small homestead.

So, what's a feller have to do to get an invite for some of that good looking chili?

Nice work! Wishing you many years of continued success. Thanks for sharing.

I was wondering about the pheasants hard to raise"?

Do you have hatching hens or do you buy the chicks?

At one time there was a big market for the feathers.

When I started this thread I wanted to tell the bad with the good so people could get a real feel for what this lifestyle is like. Murphy's Law has been at work this week. I came home after working the first of five days to find the toilet in the spare bathroom has developed a leak in the wax seal. I tried turning the water off at the toilet with the valve and the valve was leaking. So I went to my plumbing stash and dug around and found a compression fitting that would cap the toilet line off with. I couldn't find any Teflon tape but did find a brand new tube of Teflon paste..it is supposed to work like the tape..don"t believe it! I messed with trying to get it to work to keep the threads on the fitting from leaking for over an hour. I finally gave up and turned off the water to the house to keep from ruining anything else. The sub-floor in that bathroom will probably have to be replaced...oh well it was on the remodel list for winter. I picked up some Teflon tape the next day after work on the way home. ( I live 40 miles from a store). The Teflon tape did the trick and with only one try. Tonight when I got home I found one of my pheasants had escaped the pen. I spent about an hour trying to catch her before I finally succeeded. Those little buggers are fast! It is the middle of my work week..I have two more to go..sure hope the next two days have no more surprises for me!

Humbug
Get you a swimming pool dip net---long handled and a long Reach.
Maybe that'll help with the escapees!!

You are a very handy gal to have around.
May need to call you concerning my plumbing!! :

Prayers for a better week.

Life on a homestead is truely an adventure although I can't imagine being 40 miles from a store. Thats one nice thing around here small country stores carry things like that and many more. Things I would have never thought of.

Beautiful!! Both DDs, one's husband, a niece and I went to Montana to a wedding a few years ago. To a small town west of Great Falls. I don't remember how to spell it but it was pronounced "show-toe", I think!
