BEARFOOT, I have learned your opinion doesn't mean much either. If you ever make sense I would wonder

LURCH, I am a proud member of opencarry.org, maybe you should go there more. You will find a lot more people that don't believe in hiding their guns like BG's do. Again since you and Mr. Farm Don't seem to read very well (or could be you don't like to have contradictory info) please do carry the best way you can.

But be aware of what you are afraid of

Default this aint the old west, its the new west.

I can and I do open carry, Montana has open carry in some areas, Wyoming has a law protecting your constitutional right to both open carry and conceal carry with no permit.

remember we live in a very dangerous world, and the socialist want to make it more dangerous for you to own a gun then to not own a gun, the socialist social saboteurs want to make you scared to have a gun.

how long has it been since the last time anyone saw a pickup truck with a rifle rack and a few rifles hanging in it?
Everyone used to have this, i rember seeing rifle racks in Kansas and Nebraska and South Dakota and Wyoming and Montana and Idaho in Colorado,
no one has this anymore, because people were bullyed and pushed and terrorized into being scared of having a gun, and rather than stand up for their right, they turned coward to the harassment from their neighbor . family, politicians and public servants, most of whom are all socialist social saboteurs, they started leaving their guns at home locked away in the closet, and over the years either remove the rifle racks and threw them away, sold them at yard sales where I have picked up a number of them, or they never installed them in the new vehicle when they got it. Peer pressure is pretty bad. comparing the man who wears a gun, to a 'gay who wears a dress in public' is really disgusting. and yet the socialist social saboteurs will use whatever, no matter how disgusting it is, bullying method to prevent others from having a gun.

if you're going to carry a gun, you carry a great responsibility, there are so many people who hate you owning a gun so much that if they see you carrying one they will do things to instigate a problem. consider the verbal attacks against people who want to have a gun, and consider what else people will do if you're fueling up at the local gas station with a gun on your hip or a rifle rack in your truck, there are very belligerent hateful people who will attack you. not in the form of walking up and punching you in the face , but more by walking up and standing in front of your vehicle to block you from leaving, defying you to do something about it.

used to be that way around here many years ago--especially during hunting season, or out in farm and ranch country. Seems to me, the main reason folks don't anymore is that a visible rifle in the truck just invites a smash and grab nowadays when parked in the walmart, or mall lot.

I only mentioned states that I had lived in, most all of the areas wore farm and ranch country, rural communities.
I'm sure that a lot of other states 20 years ago, or even 40 years ago before my time, had people who did not mind to keep and bear arms.

Gun owners have been bullyed & outright terrorized even to the point of death.

I don't own a gun, but once I was jumped while riding my bike...after that, bought the biggest ice pick I could find and strapped it to my bike handle.

"Dubious" looking/acting people actually asked about it but I was never attacked after that.

dubious is not quite the term, for the type of people who approach you and ask "what's that icepick for ? " your not going to hurt somebody with that are you !?!? "

I never have quite figured out what to say to someone who has to come up and gag at me some question about 'what a gun is for'

I do appreciate the occasional people who compliment me for it however

LOL...I think these folks were thrown off 'cause they hadn't seen a dagger ice pick strapped to someone's handle. Especially with a woman riding.

I had a new bike at the time, so that might have been the main attraction.

I wasn't sure what to say, either.

I'll second the OC on homestead, often, plus CC in public, always when and where legal. I do this for safety but mostly as an exercise of my rights. My flint head, perhaps.

BTW, I always prefer socially acceptable behavior, however, I view my rights and legal practices as MINE and I do nothing to endanger the rights God gives me. I also refrain from enfringing on the rights of others. The rights and legal acts of others are their own business. I can ignore them if need be.

I respect the right of anyone to forbid carry, open or concealed, on their property but I abhor the mere thought of limiting one's rights as restated by the Constitution; so much so that I'm reluctant to even enter some of the stores where folks forbid me to carry in exercize of my Second Amendment right. They have the right to control their place of business, however, and I have the right not to shop there. It's just a little quirk in my character I reckon. To each his own and God bless those who love Him and His.

Please forgive the rhetoric,
oeb

I wonder how many caught the excellent lesson on rights in this sentence? Well put.

I've been reading over the thoughtful responses to this query. Texas may be on the cusp of passing a law to let us do what we should already be able to do. So far, it appears that those who have purchased a permit to exercise their right to CC will be granted the BONUS provision of exercising their right to OC.

For now, I think I'll continue to CC simply because I don't want to be target #1. In the future, as OC becomes more prevalent, I will be more likely to "come out."

I will for two reasons. One just to get everyone used to seeing OC, and Two to stick a finger in the eye (figuratively) of the bed wetters.

It's legal here, but I don't (except on our own place or in the mountains) because I personally don't like drawing attention. However, I like your answer jim, and I agree with both parts of it. It's just not me. I saw quite a few people with Glocks on their hips and AR's on their shoulders in a Tea Party demonstration I walked in a couple of years ago though. I stuck pretty close to them. I figured if trouble broke out, I was safer with them than I was alone with the little .38 Special snubby I had hidden under my shirt.

That's the kind of attitude that turns people from indifferent to anti-gun, and they VOTE.

Whatever happened to, 'Do unto others as you would have others do unto you'? I know I don't like to be frightened by others; and I do my best not to frighten other people, too.

As far as these guys who walk around malls and restaurants while OC'ing? In this crazy day and age I always watch them very very carefully! Pathetic, delusional, badly confused, socially maladjusted, 'little boys' with big guns - How sad! I strongly suspect that 9 out of 10 of them couldn't even, 'clear leather' - let alone successfully shoot - against a real pistolero. In fact, I'm 100% sure of it!

(Just out 'a curiosity has anyone, besides me, ever wondered, 'Why' so very few women open carry? Around here I've never seen it; but, I have seen several, 'Pocono Billy' rednecks OC' ing, here and there, around town.)

If you're frightened by inanimate objects seek professional council or move back to NJ/NY, or whatever city you're from.

I can and do when I am in the middle of nowhere but not when I am around other people. I live in a rural area where I don't think it would bother anyone but I don't believe in directly thumbing my nose at people with other beliefs that vote.

Actually, that is totally not true. As I live live in two states that are very open carry friendly, I have found that the more people that see it the less frightened they are. If people don't see it, they only have what's in their imaginations, where fear is born.

I really think those that say they are afraid are really not, or they wouldn't challenge people that are armed. Most of them just have an agenda. If someone would admit to being afraid. Ask them what they are afraid of, and politely push it, till you get an answer.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot!

The other favorite haunt of these incredibly introverted, socially maladjusted OC' ers is on internet gun forums. (Who'd have thought!) In fact the more, 'gung-ho' the forum, the more socially maladjusted rednecks you're going to encounter. Look at it this way: If people were, for the most part, well adjusted then there wouldn't be so strong a desire to live, 'off-grid'; and, let's face it, the world would simply be a better place .......

BUT IT'S NOT!

Worse, most people simply refuse to learn from either the existing foibles of their own personal behavior, and the very real problems they create for themselves, or from even the most obvious (and painful) of their past mistakes.

THAT'S LIFE IN A, MUCH TOO OFTEN, EVIL WORLD - AN INCREASINGLY EVIL WORLD!

With today's college classrooms, malls, and movie theaters being, almost constantly, shot-up by gun-toting lunatics, equally idiotic OC' ers flatly refuse to get the obvious social lesson - The (underlying) moral reality that their political opponents are able to gleefully use against them, over and over again, every time some nutcase misuses a firearm:

PEOPLE DON'T LEARN; AND THEY, ESPECIALLY, DON'T LEARN THE VITAL MORAL LESSONS THAT ARE SO NECESSARY IN ORDER FOR ALL OF US TO BE ABLE TO HARMONIOUSLY LIVE TOGETHER ON AN, OTHERWISE, GROSSLY OVERCROWDED PLANET - THE ONLY HOME WE'VE GOT!

I don't know, 'Why'? (Well, actually I do; but it's an, 'inconvenient truth' that, given the present audience, is, perhaps, best left unstated!)

It's not about the "object"

It's about the attitudes of those doing it to "poke a finger".

Most folks don't want to see the guns, and if you push the issue, they will vote against it.
