Default Howdy from the Midlands of SC

Hi, I'm a newby to this forum. I'm in the Sumter, SC area, my boyfriend & I live on 10+ acres out in the country with 17 laying hens & 3 Nigerian Dwarf wethers. I have a small garden, I can, make my own bread, mayo, dressings, render lard, line dry our clothes (we have a dryer, but I hate using it) & am trying to become more self-sufficient. I'd really like to learn to make soap, as I think the more homesteading skills we have the better.

Congratulations on surviving the floods!
I feel certain someone here knows all about soap making (But I don't)

Welcome to the forum. I would ask why you only have wethers? If you have a couple does, you would have milk, cheese, and...you could make goat milk soap. I, too, am glad you have survived the floods.

Thank you, the reason I just have wethers is they are just pets & brush trimmers. I first wanted does, but I'm 65 & figured I'd be too old to deal with kidding, milking etc., as my DBF says, I've got enough on my plate right now.

Welcome to the forum. Sounds like you've got a good handle on things. Your goats may be pets and brush trimmers but that is an important job too. It's also important to know your limits.

Enjoy the forum!
