Default Asparagus

Can 2 different varieties of asparagus be planted in the same row, or should they be placed in separate rows?

Two varieties can be planted in the same row. Do you have hybrid all-male varieties or are they heirloom? If you have females in the mix, they will cross and that mey be a bad thing unless you are a plant breeder. I would stick to one variety in an area if it is a "traditional" type, but plant two or more varieties in the same area if they are "all-male" types. Male asparagus are better as they produce bigger spears sooner (since they don't have to put energy into producing seeds) and they don't crowd out the patch--the biggest cause of production decline since they don't self-seed.

Love Asparagus season, my favourite vegetable, great with most meals and lovely in a bit of butter on the barbecue.
