Default Grid Down Alert

Maybe you've heard, or maybe not since the major news feeds aren't making much noise about it. . .

On 21 April, power grid outages occurred in several big cities: San Francisco, Las Angeles (including LAX) and New York. It's difficult to tell if they're truly related but they may have a geomagnetic storm in common.

The takeaway, from my perspective, is that related or not, common denominators are that the grid infrastructure is outdated and undersized. Expect more, not fewer grid down situations.

It makes sense to be ready for grid down situations (yes, I'm preaching to the choir). The "One Minute After" type novels are sounding more prescient every day.

We've talked about this extensively here in the past. The events you mention probably weren't related to a geomagnetic storm (that would have produced a more generalized problem, not three distantly spaced problems) but the coincidence of the three does suggest an organized effort like computer hacking.

Or possibly a test run. Three major cities on opposite coasts, sounds more than just a coincidence to me.
