Talking I finally got it!

It has been six years since I joined this forum and shared with you all my dream of getting some land, what I wanted to do with it and the lifestyle of self-reliance I wanted to live. I've had that dream all my life.

Finally, I closed on 15 acres. This is raw land. My husband and I will be starting from the beginning with developing this property.

But, the best thing is I PAID for it IN FULL.

It will be a while before we can move out there, but it aint going anywhere. We are going to work on the property over time as money and time allows while I am still in school. The process of developing the property and moving out there will be accelerated once I finish school and start bringing in a second income working in my new career.

Please join me in celebration. I love this property and really like the area it is in, quiet town with like-minded neighbors.

Excellent! Congratulations. Be patient with it. Happiness is not a destination. It's a way of traveling.

Good for you! Not many people - myself included - have the discipline to do what you did and save up to pay cash. It has to feel great!

You are now well on your way to your dream.

Thanks ya'll.

12vman, we are little ways off yet from camping.

First step will be putting in a culvert and start cutting through a drive to access the property, which is heavily wooded. And, we want to clear enough space we can use to start cleaning up the property.

We will probably do some work this fall after the weather cools off. Plus, that will give us a chance to build our bank account back up some.

Clearing some of the land, then building an outhouse and also having the water well put in are following steps. At that point, the property will be a weekend camping get away, and will exist as such for a long time. We will spend lots of dreaming and planning time with planting fruit and nut trees, and planning how we are going lay out our homestead.

After I finish school and start bringing in a second income, we will do the fencing, pasture development, septic and mobile home...then move in us and the animals.

I agree with Doc who stated that is the journey, not the destination. We are going to be happy with that process, because we will be working towards something that is about something. It has meaning, and it is ours.

Congrats! My suggestion would be that after you choose the house site is to pick out your garden site and start developing the soil. So by the time you are ready to mov there, the soil will be ready to rock and roll.

DS, I am Thrilled for you.

You and I joined here around the same time, and while life threw me some curveballs and I'm still renting (a farm) I absolutely love these "success" stories of fulfilling ones' ambitions.

What a wonderful thread, bask in a job well done, efforts well spent and satisfaction well enjoyed!
