How The Shopping Cart Works

      Whenever you click on one of the shopping cart icons that say "Add," the item is placed in your cart. Many shopping carts make you view the contents of the cart each time you select something. Not here. When you add an item, a small text box will pop up. Click on "OK" if you want to view the cart contents or choose "Cancel" to stay right where you are and continue browsing.

      Feel free to add to your cart any item that interests you since you can always remove items before you "check out." To see what is already in your cart, to remove an item, or to change the quantity of an item, click on the shopping cart on the right side of the page that says "View."

Cookies & Javascript

      This shopping cart uses cookies to remember your selections and Javascript to do math and post notices. (Both are normally enabled when your internet browser was installed) While you can browse with them turned off, please make sure both are enabled if you intend to make any purchases online.

      The cookie is a small file the shopping cart sends to your computer for storage. While you are shopping, the cookie stores the items you've purchased. Then, when you "check out" it stores information like your name and address (but never your credit card info). If you return to the General Store within a year it will remember you and fill in the shipping information for you.

      You can check the contents of this file for yourself if you like. It will be in whatever folder your computer stores cookies (often in /Windows/Cookies or /Netscape/Users/your_name). It is a simple text file and may be viewed with Notepad, Wordpad or any other text editor.

Ordering, Payment & Shipping

      Backwoods Home Magazine accepts Visa, Mastercard, Discover, Novus, and American Express credit cards as well as bank & postal money orders and personal & company checks. (Note: Checks must clear before order is shipped.)

      When it is time to "check out," you will be asked for shipping and billing information like your name, address, etc. Then, when it is time to enter your credit card information, the shopping cart will take you to our Secure Server. Note: The cookie does NOT transmit or store any credit card information.

      Prices quoted are in U.S. dollars. Checks and money orders must be drawn on U.S. banks.

      Most orders, except subscriptions, are processed and shipped within 24 hours.

      Packaging, handling and shipping charges apply to all items except subscriptions, including any premiums or extras that may be included with a subscription. You can see how much this will be anytime you view the contents of your cart.

      NOTE: Postage charges for non-USA destination print subscriptions and for First Class delivery within the USA must be selected at the bottom of the subscription order page before you add the subscription to your shopping cart. If it is not, your subscription order will be delayed while we contact you to authorize the additional postage charge.

      Due to slow/unreliable service, we will not ship foreign orders via ground transport. All foreign orders are shipped via Air Transport. Additional shipping & handling charges apply to all shipments outside the USA.

      Our shopping cart operates via our regular server until it is time to enter your credit card information. Credit card information is taken online via a Secure Server. If you will be paying by check, or if you will be phoning in your credit card information, you will not not be taken to the secure server during the transaction since no sensitive information will be transmitted.

      You may also place the order online and phone in your credit card number, you may fax your order or you may mail in your order. See the next section for details.

      Regardless of how you choose to pay for your order, you will receive a receipt via email indicating the items you purchased and the relevant charges. (Note: If you do not select all appropriate options (such as foreign shipping charges) the receipt will be incorrect and your order will be delayed while we contact you for authorization to add the appropriate charges.)

Alternate Ordering Methods

      Don't like to do credit card orders online? No problem! Here are three other options for you.

      You can use the cart to shop normally. When it is time to "check out" just choose either "Credit Card Transaction Via Telephone / Fax" or "Pay by Check Or Money Order." The shopping cart will produce a printable order form with a unique order number. Although the cart will email you a copy of the order, we suggest you also print the form, if you can, when it is displayed. Then either

1. Phone in your Order # and Credit Card information using our toll-free number 1-800-835-2418
2. Write in your Credit Card info, then Fax the form to us at 1-541-247-8600
3. Mail the form with your Check or Money Order to:

      Whichever method you choose, the shopping cart will ALWAYS email you a copy of the order you placed (without any credit card info, of course).

Ordering Without Cookies

      If you are absolutely opposed to enabling cookies and Javascript, you can still get the items you want. Just jot down the stock number(s) and price(s) of the item(s) as you browse, then use our toll-free number above to phone in your credit card order or just mail us the list with your payment and shipping information.
