Brad got to sample many of them, enjoying their various and unique flavors. Then we went to the Sand and Main Gardens, checking out the corn, peppers, melons, and beans there. He was very interested in all the stories about the history of the various crops, which is one of our favorite subjects. All the while, he was filming, and I tried to make sense! Doing a filmed interview on the front porch capped it off, then I showed him how we save tomato seeds from our first Bill Bean tomato that was ripe. Sharing these stories is so much fun and I hope others enjoy seeing out homestead too. We sure enjoyed the visit, and I’ll let you know when it’s scheduled to air.<\/p>\n
<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-10546\" src=\"https:\/\/www.backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/JackieClay\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/Sarge-Jackie_0313.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1600\" height=\"1143\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/JackieClay\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/Sarge-Jackie_0313.jpg 1600w, https:\/\/www.backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/JackieClay\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/Sarge-Jackie_0313-300x214.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/JackieClay\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/Sarge-Jackie_0313-1024x732.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/JackieClay\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/Sarge-Jackie_0313-768x549.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/JackieClay\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/Sarge-Jackie_0313-1536x1097.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/JackieClay\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/Sarge-Jackie_0313-696x497.jpg 696w, https:\/\/www.backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/JackieClay\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/Sarge-Jackie_0313-1068x763.jpg 1068w, https:\/\/www.backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/JackieClay\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/Sarge-Jackie_0313-588x420.jpg 588w, https:\/\/www.backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/JackieClay\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/Sarge-Jackie_0313-100x70.jpg 100w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1600px) 100vw, 1600px\" \/><\/a>
After the PBS North visit, I was headed out to pick potato bugs. Everything but the corn is coming along nicely. I may or may not get corn to can this year. We’ll see. Our last planting is just up, and I am hopeful for a late frost this fall. This afternoon, our friends Sheri and Dara are planning to come out and pick more Dragon Tongue and Provider beans to can. Boy do those beans ever produce.
