Bush<\/em><\/p>\n<p>While you can home can many meats &#8220;dry,&#8221; especially if you use a raw pack, many &#8220;dry&#8221; meats end up kind of dry and tougher. I do can my ground meat &#8220;dry,&#8221; as well as smoked fish, etc. The steam in the meat from natural juices and a bit of grease will thoroughly heat any such meat enough for safe canning. &#8212; Jackie<\/p>\n<p><strong>Homesteading at an older age on a fixed income<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>I live on a fixed income like many but I do so want my own land. Even more so now that my landlady does not want me to plant fruit trees as her family does not eat fruit. Can you imagine? Anyway is it possible for a single 61 year old women to homestead? Is there a rule somewhere that says I can&#8217;t? A single 61-year-&#8220;old&#8221; woman can certainly homestead. I&#8217;m nearly 66 and plan on homesteading until I become compost! There is no &#8220;rule&#8221; that says we can&#8217;t, but even if there was, I wouldn&#8217;t listen, anyway! We may have to do things the &#8220;easy&#8221; way or slower, but we can sure do it!
