Yes, you need to heat the cheese. What I do is set the open can in my oven at 200 degrees until the cheese is hot all the way through. Then I ladle it out into hot, sterilized jars, leaving 1\/2 inch of headspace. I process my cheese sauce in a boiling water bath canner for 90 minutes.
