How exciting! After all this time, it&#8217;s starting to quickly look like a barn! And that gives us hope that maybe we&#8217;ll get &#8216;er under a roof before snow flies.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/JackieClay\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/Trusses-going-up.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2480\" title=\"Trusses-going-up\" src=\"https:\/\/www.backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/JackieClay\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/Trusses-going-up.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"446\" height=\"380\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m picking more beans and cukes for more canning tomorrow (or maybe tonight if I&#8217;m not too tired), along with watering the orchard and garden, moving sprinklers as needed. Boy, does our sweet corn look GREAT! Huge ears and plenty of them. We can hardly wait for the first meal of homegrown sweet corn. Who needs anything else? (Okay, maybe some butter and salt.)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/JackieClay\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/Compost-pumpkins.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2481\" title=\"Compost-pumpkins\" src=\"https:\/\/www.backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/JackieClay\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/Compost-pumpkins.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"446\" height=\"380\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This spring, we tossed a rotten Halloween pumpkin onto our huge compost pile sitting out by the chicken pen. It sent out a lusty plant. So lusty that we decided it needed friends. So we planted a few plants and seeds of various squash (far from our garden&#8217;s pure-seed stock squash so it won&#8217;t cross). Holy mackerel &#8212; that pile&#8217;s covered with squash and pumpkin vines! And it has never gotten watered all summer. The squash in the garden look wonderful too, so I think we&#8217;ll have plenty of fat squash to store over winter this year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Meanwhile, Will and Eric are setting trusses up on the new barn.
