Literally! As their land is basically ledge rock with no topsoil, they developed a garden made up of five-gallon buckets resting on platforms off of their high deck. The bottom of each bucket has a hole cut in it to hold a tomato or squash plant and the top is planted with such crops as lettuce, cabbage, carrots, or peppers.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/JackieClay\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/Virginia.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3508\" alt=\"Virginia\" src=\"https:\/\/www.backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/JackieClay\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/Virginia.gif\" width=\"446\" height=\"385\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/JackieClay\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/Cabbage.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3509\" alt=\"Cabbage\" src=\"https:\/\/www.backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/JackieClay\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/Cabbage.gif\" width=\"446\" height=\"615\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>They get an amazing harvest from these buckets and I am impressed with their creativity.
