Usually the woods frogs, who sound sort of like ducks or a stick being rubbed back and forth over a scrub board, start their spring song. Then, a few days later, the spring peepers wake up. They sound like cheerful sleigh bells. Of course, the daytime temperature reached 69 so that probably had something to do with it. I was so excited when I went out to shut in the ducks in the evening and heard them peeping so loudly. Yup, spring is here!

Here’s the new gate we hung to keep big critters out of the backyard and garden. I plan on decorating it a bit too.

Will threw the track, both on our bulldozer, Old Yeller, and the crawler/loader. And he’s got to put them back on. Not a nice job. He’s waiting for David to get home some evening, in the daylight, for help. Unfortunately, David’s been working out of the area since Monday and doesn’t get home until very dark. Oh well, one of these days. The track’s too heavy for me to boost around.

The main garden is all mowed and picked clean; just waiting for manure and tilling. Unfortunately, there’s a lot of frost in the ground yet and the tractor won’t pick up wet manure down in the slick barnyard without getting stuck. So we’re waiting until it dries out some and more frost goes away.

Doesn’t the main garden look nice, all ready to manure and till?

Our tomatoes, peppers, and flowers look great this year.

I’ve been busy moving flats of tomatoes and peppers in and outside during nicer, non-windy days so they get used to normal growing conditions. Inside, I’ve got some newly planted broccoli, cabbage and cauliflower popping up as well as more flowers like Heavenly Blue morning glories and larkspur. In a month, my daylilies I bought on the daylily auction will start arriving so I am plotting out where they’ll all go. (Will, get that track back on the ‘dozer!
