As in our past, which has now become a family tradition, we spent the morning of Mother’s Day at Byrnes Greenhouse in Zim, Minnesota. We meet up and visit while picking out a cartload of flowers and assorted plants. Granddaughter, Ava, loves to go and pick out plants for her fairy garden. But this year, she informed her mother she needed some of her garden for her own flowers! This is the kid who never leaves here without a pocket of bean seeds of various varieties, which she plants in their garden. Youngest granddaughter, Delilah, had fun, now that she can walk, walking up and down the aisles. I ask David why his jeans and shirt were so muddy and he pointed at Delilah. During her walks, she’d fall down in the muddy aisles, then climb up on Dad’s lap or have him pick her up. Grandson, Mason, worked hard as the carrier, taking chosen plants to various carts for the rest of us. Thanks, Mason! We barely had enough room in the car for all my plants. Bill brought his truck but Kelly didn’t fill it up. She said she’d gladly go back and work on that though!<\/p>\n

After all that plant buying, we gathered at the Wilbert Cafe, in Cotton, for brunch. It was packed, due to Mother’s Day, but we all sat at the horseshoe-shaped lunch counter and had a great visit while waiting for our food. We ate, visited and ate some more till we were stuffed. And, all too soon, we had to break up and head for home as Kelly and Elizabeth had to visit their mothers for Mother’s Day too. Tomorrow, I’ll start planting some of the plants I bought but most will have to wait until we have safe, frost-free nights.<\/p>\n

We recently had a funeral for poor Spencer, as we’d been waiting for the ground to thaw out deep enough. Will dug with the dozer and afterward, I spread a lot of wildflower seeds on Spencer’s grave so we’d have a beautiful spot to remember him by.
