Hurricane Sandy, a \u201cFrankenstorm\u201d of reportedly epic proportion, is hitting the northeast even as I write this.\u00a0 I find it comforting to know that my loved ones, friends, and extended family in its path all seem to be well prepared.<\/p>\n
Backwoods Home Magazine is all about self-sufficiency, and moments such as this bring focus to the concept.\u00a0 Forces of nature are much more likely to create feces-and-fan moments than nuclear warfare, let alone invasion from outer space, zombie apocalypse, etc.\u00a0 For some, in the coming hours and days, preparation will be the difference between life and death.\u00a0 For many more, it will be the difference between inconvenience and true suffering.\u00a0 And for all the rest, having been prepared will at the very least provide peace of mind.<\/p>\n
A big city cop deep into the information stream advised me today that tweets are going out on Twitter trying to organize looting in some of the more urban areas in the path of Sandy.\u00a0 If the wolves are using technology to bring their packs more effectively together \u2013 and, sadly they have been doing that for some time \u2013 it\u2019s all the more important that your emergency \u201cfire\u201d options include more than candles and wood for the woodstove.<\/p>\n
In the same depressing vein, the \u201cTwitter-stream\u201d has indicated for some time the possibility that civil disturbance may erupt in the wake of the coming Presidential election, depending on the outcome.\u00a0 Police around the nation are quietly preparing for this contingency.<\/p>\n
