{"id":1995,"date":"2012-12-03T17:03:39","date_gmt":"2012-12-03T21:03:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/MassadAyoob\/?p=1995"},"modified":"2012-12-03T17:03:39","modified_gmt":"2012-12-03T21:03:39","slug":"christmas-gun-stuff-part-ii","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/MassadAyoob\/christmas-gun-stuff-part-ii\/","title":{"rendered":"CHRISTMAS GUN STUFF, PART II"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Being one of those folks who love to get books for Christmas, I naturally tend to GIVE books for Christmas.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/ecx.images-amazon.com\/images\/I\/51ZzzXVvBsL._AA160_.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"160\" height=\"160\" \/><br \/>\nOne I can strongly recommend is \u201cPractical Home Security\u201d by Alex Haddox.\u00a0 I know Alex, and though his main foundation is as a martial arts instructor, I can tell you he knows his way around guns.\u00a0 This isn\u2019t a gun book, though; it\u2019s a common sense approach to home safety.\u00a0 An excellent gift for the people in your life who think the world is full of unicorns and moonbeams and butterflies, and don\u2019t listen to your good advice about keeping their family safe.\u00a0 Maybe they\u2019ll listen to a gentle but persuasive voice like that of brother Haddox.\u00a0 You (and they) can listen to his good advice in snippets on his free podcast, here: \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.palladium-education.com\/practicaldefense.shtml\" target=\"_blank\">The Practical Defense Podcast<\/a>\u00a0or on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/us\/podcast\/practical-defense\/id262011138\" target=\"_blank\">iTunes<\/a>.\u00a0 The book can be ordered from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Practical-Home-Security-Guide-Living\/dp\/0615551920\/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1354567117&amp;sr=8-1&amp;keywords=Practical+home+Security\" target=\"_blank\">Amazon<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Are\u00a0 you a rifle shooter, or do you have a rifle owner on your gift list?<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/MassadAyoob\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/hprII_cover3001.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-1999\" title=\"hprII_cover300\" src=\"http:\/\/backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/MassadAyoob\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/hprII_cover3001.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"215\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nIf so, remember you don\u2019t have to be a competitor at the National Championships at Camp Perry to benefit from the advice of one of the all time great National High Power Rifle Champions.\u00a0 That would be one David Tubbs, who took the title no less than eleven times.\u00a0 His advice is sometimes subtle and arcane, but the book is a solid read, and I\u00a0couldn&#8217;t\u00a0put it down.\u00a0 You may not adopt his signature style of canting the rifle to the side as he aims, but you\u2019ll be fascinated to understand his clearly explained rationale of why he does it that way\u2026and you\u2019ll want to try it.\u00a0 New shooter or old hand, Appleseed attendee or deer hunter, there is information in his book \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.zediker.com\/books\/rifleshooter\/rifleshootermain.html#contents\" target=\"_blank\">The Rifle Shooter<\/a>\u201d which will make you better at it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPractical Home Security\u201d is inexpensive. Hell, you can give a bunch of \u2018em out for stocking stuffers.\u00a0 \u201cThe Rifle Shooter\u201d is not inexpensive, at least by Barnes &amp; Noble standards, but one thing\u00a0I&#8217;ve\u00a0found over the years is that expensive books are ideal gifts for people who would have been too frugal to buy them for themselves, and they cherish the gift all the more.\u00a0 It\u2019s also a helluva lot cheaper than taking a rifle course with a professional like Tubbs, and trust me, any rifle owner who reads it will get a lot out of it.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Being one of those folks who love to get books for Christmas, I naturally tend to GIVE books for Christmas.
