{"id":2483,"date":"2013-10-15T07:42:40","date_gmt":"2013-10-15T11:42:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/MassadAyoob\/?p=2483"},"modified":"2013-10-15T07:42:40","modified_gmt":"2013-10-15T11:42:40","slug":"a-man-of-the-gun-passes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/MassadAyoob\/a-man-of-the-gun-passes\/","title":{"rendered":"A MAN OF THE GUN PASSES"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I first met Reeves Jungkind in 1976, at Dr. Robert Burgess\u2019 first Shoot For Loot match in Laramie, Wyoming.\u00a0 Long since a Texas state champion, Reeves was still a helluva good shot with his trademark Colt Python .357 Magnum.<\/p>\n<p>Reeves passed last week at age 86, in the Lone Star State where he spent a long career as a Texas highway patrolman.\u00a0 My friend <a href=\"http:\/\/www.grantcunningham.com\/blog_files\/category-gunsmithing.html\" target=\"_blank\">Grant Cunningham offers an excellent eulogy<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Reeves was your quintessential Texas lawman.\u00a0 Laid back and easy going, but not someone in front of whom you\u2019d want to try to harm an innocent person.\u00a0 A wry sense of humor.\u00a0 And an absolute mastery of his particular skill set.<\/p>\n<p>Many years ago, I was attending a national firearms event where several people were lamenting the recent death of Reeves Jungkind.\u00a0 I took it at face value and wrote a eulogy in one of the gun magazines for which I did a regular column.\u00a0 When the magazine came out, I got a call at home from Reeves.\u00a0\u00a0 I told him how glad I was that he was still alive.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYeah,\u201d he drawled, \u201cbut not as glad as I am.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I will cherish all the more two guns he did for me, a short barrel Python .357 and a Colt Official Police .38 made into a PPC gun years ago, with a heavy barrel and sight rib installed by the late Austin Behlert and of course, the incomparable Reeves Jungkind action job.<\/p>\n<p>Reeves was a giant in his world, and he will be missed.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I first met Reeves Jungkind in 1976, at Dr. Robert Burgess\u2019 first Shoot For Loot match in Laramie, Wyoming.\u00a0 Long since a Texas state champion, Reeves was still a helluva good shot with his trademark Colt Python .357 Magnum.
